Using VAMP to successfully mitigate dispute and fraud

Power of CDRN and RDR

In our previous two blogs, we’ve looked at Visa’s newly updated Visa Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP) and how it can help acquirers and merchants proactively manage risks like fraud and chargebacks.

So how can acquirers, merchants, and payment facilitators use VAMP’s criteria and processes to strengthen their payments strategies? In this blog, we’ll share some actionable tips and real-world advice that our payment and chargeback experts recently shared in our webinar “Navigating the risk environment in 2025.”

Best practices to keep chargeback risks low

  1. Enhance your merchant onboarding: Use robust KYC and underwriting to spot high-risk merchants before they’re onboarded. Visa’s Merchant Risk Toolkit  recommends you conduct ongoing due diligence.
  2. Monitor transactions continually: Track chargeback and fraud ratios in real-time, not just at the end of the month. Real-time data analytics are key, so you don’t have to wait to react to a problem.
  3. Collaborate with your teams: Engage your risk, compliance, and underwriting teams to share data and insights. Internal collaboration makes it easier to act quickly and decisively.
  4. Leverage dispute technology: Pre-dispute prevention and resolution tools like CDRN®, RDR, and Order Insight can reduce the number of eligible disputes, so merchants can decrease their dispute risk.

Communication and collaboration
Merchants should proactively communicate with their acquirer and leverage the resources they offer, like quarterly risk reviews and educational webinars. Verifi also hosts quarterly webinars that explore the latest industry trends and share payment strategies from our in-house experts. Take advantage of these learning opportunities.

Preparing for the future
Compliance is a journey, not a destination. As fraud trends change, so do the challenges that you’ll face with payments. By understanding the rules, communicating with Visa and your payments partners, and embracing best practices, everyone can thrive in a changing landscape.
